Biography

Professor Shah Mohammad Faruque is a Bangladeshi microbiologist whose research has advanced understanding of Vibrio cholerae ecology, quorum sensing, and the role of bacteriophages in the epidemiology of cholera. He is Professor in the School of Environment and Life Sciences at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), and President/Chairperson of BILSER. Before joining IUB, he held research leadership roles at BRAC University and at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B), where much of his landmark cholera research was conducted. His work spans microbial genomics, environmental microbiology, pathogen evolution, and antimicrobial resistance.
